Pretty sad record, but not surprising since Costco is headquartered in a far-left corner of WA state. I suspect when a large % of your customer base learns of your contributions to far-left political candidates, they may decide to “vote with their dollars elsewhere. As a member of COSTO for many years, I’m sharing this “voice of warning” since this information is spreading like “wild-fire” across the internet.
I enjoy shopping at Costco and appreciate the quality of your products. Recently I read that Costco has donated a considerable sum of money to the Democratic Party. This disappointed me greatly and will reconsider my shopping habits’
Yeah for Costco! I knew there was a reason my wife and I loved shopping at Costco! Keep up the good work and let’s hope that Obama will be re-elected in November!!! We will continue to be members as long as you keep continuing your great work and ethical treatment of people.
It’s wonderful to know that Costco has a democratic leaning. Makes me feel good to shop there.
Thank you Costco……!!!
LOVE your hot dogs !!! and everything in my filled up shopping cart!
My first clue that Costco supported Obama was at the convention. Though my husband and I have been customers for many years, I will no longer be shopping there
I have spent a lot of $$ at Costco over past 7 years that they have been open here. I will return to Sam’s Club as first choice now and only look to Costco for the exceptions.
We were surprised to learn of Costco’s leanings and very disappointed.
We try to support good causes so we will be checking out the new Sams when it opens. in our area.
You people are going to stop shopping at a business that not only treat it’s customers with integrity and bends over backward to make them happy but treats it’s employees with respect paying them good wages and benefits??? What are you people smoking??? This is what responsible companies do.
Costco is the best and in no way does Walmart compare. One company has integrity in every area and one company treats it’s employees, especially women, like garbage.
Just dumb and ignorant comments. That’s how a lot of Republicans are. They are not criticical thinkers. No common sense.
Suzanne,
Count me among the “dumb & ignorant”, but perhaps before you continue extolling the virtue of a company that “treats it’s employees with respect paying them good wages and benefits”, you should do a simple Google search for Costco class action lawsuit. You will find that this company that “has integrity in every area” is being sued in a class action lawsuit which claims that Costco refuses to promote women into management. A Federal judge today struck down Costco’s motion to deny class status. I guess Republicans don’t have the market cornered on being dumb and ignorant.
Suzanne and other ignorant lefties,
I agree with Dave and I am also disappointed in Costco. I will also be shopping elsewhere.
Word of warning to Costco. In these lean times with a larger chunk of taxes taken out of our spending money, conservatives will be spending only at conservative companies.
I have been a loyal customer of Costco for many years as a business owner living in Oregon and now in Texas. My family will no longer continue doing business with this retailer either.
This makes me sad because I love shopping at Costco personally and for my business. I will take my business elsewhere and possibly cancel my memberships for all employees…….sad! Wonder how Sam’s Warehouse donates, will check out that option. Wake up Costco!!
Goodbye Costco. You may want to start accepting food stamps as you will no longer receive the benefit of my regular purchases in your stores.
I emailed the corporate headquarters at Costco and was told they do not donate to any political parties so as not to offend customers. There is a page in their website stating what they do not donate to.
Perhaps Costcos owner does donate but, although I disagree with it personally, he has a right to put his money where he chooses.
I’m not sure where this info came from but if you have questions email them and ask before you quit shopping there.
Joan> Here is a page with details on Costco employee donations: http://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/summary.php?cycle=2012&type=P&id=D000000703
The company vs employee donations issue is a thorny one. We try to give raw facts, so people can make up their own minds, but in the future we may indicate whether it is the actual corp or it’s employees who make the donations.
What do you think?
i am gone………long time costco shopper……spread the word……..do they take ebt cards ? your new clientele…………
Flashback!! About 30 yrs ago to the Price Club in Norfolk, VA. We’ve been with COSTCO ever since. We may continue to use the fuel station for it is nearby and easy to get to.. But you may bet yo lunch money our inside the store purchases shall be curtailed to almost nil. From the news article I take it the contribution was a coporate one and not the employees who have a job and their stock has done well. Hello Sam’s. Thanks a ton Sam Walton RIP.
Will not shop at liberal stores that was to bankrupt this country////\
Welcome to Sams!
Yay Costco. Wish it were 100% blue, but close enough. I appreciate the efforts Costco does by providing decent starting pay, good benefits, limiting profits to maintain affordability and efforts at selling local, organic and environmentally sustainable products.
What a slap in the face to the small business people who are (were) your target customer base. These people are well informed. As all there expenses are already skyrocketing why would they continue to shop a business who is essentially trying to shut them down. I don’t need to say that I’m moving all my business to Sam’s. My loss of $$$ over the past couple of months have already spoken for me.
The Costco admin. gave facts on employee contributions, dodging the corporate donation question. Having been members since Price Club days back in 1983, we are not renewing our business membership due to the corporate heavy donations to the Democratic party. Our money will go to businesses supporting conservative causes. Very disappointed in Costco. We spents wads of money there….but no longer! Seems that supporting the Democratic ideas will hurt Costco in the long run. What are they thinking?!!
We stopped shopping at Costco last year when we read that it is a Democrat candidate supporting corporation. We did not renew our card this year and will take our money to conservative businesses. I agree with Lisa, above, who said that this is a slap in the face to small businesses who are the lifeblood of this country.
If you would just shut up and sell your products everything would be great. I bought everything from Costco. You have alienated by backing the liberal in the last election. Knowing that your stockholders would be hit with higher taxes in 13 you paid out the dividends in 12. But I guess that’s how liberalism works
I do hope all of you ignorant #!*#%! here realize that the company that you have your cellular phone coverage from is left-leaning. The car you drive is from a company that is left-leaning. Everything you use and own comes from companies that support marriage equality and have other COMMON SENSE values. So, if you’re going to stop shopping at Costco because Costco is left-leaning and is somehow wrong for giving their employees decent LIVING wages, then you might want to make sure you stop supporting Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Chevrolet, GMC, Chrysler. Oh, by the way, the people who assemble your cars get health insurance from their employers. If you don’t like that, that’s another reason to stop buying cars and supporting companies who are against your out-dated medieval-aged values.
GOP/Republicans/Tea Partiers: FYI, Walmart receives between 25 and 40 percent of all food stamp spending. Walmart’s wages force many of its employees to depend heavily on $2.66 billion in government help every year.
You might want to do a little research before jumping ship. It is HIGHLY beneficial for Walmart to underpay it’s employees and refuse to provide health insurance, because it keeps their employees on the gov’t dime… it keeps the subsides, funding and consumer dollars rolling in.
Think. Read. Learn.
Boycott Walmart! Not good paying, employee-supporting companies like Costco.

Silly GOP’ers!
And people gripe about why our politicians can’t get anything done in Washington. I just read all these rants and it sounds like no one has any tollerance for anothers opinion. You can’t be right about everything folks. I live in a state as red as they come, but don’t hate people that have a different position than me, they are just as patriotic Americans as I am. I shop at Costco because I like the products and the prices they offer. I too have a Sam’s membership and buy about 20% of my purchases there. The staff is nice at both places, and my money is accepted equally at both. Let’s relax and try to set an example for Congress. Don’t fall prey to these talking heads making money off of finding ways to make you mad.
What’s better? A company that gives you a great deal on your purchases (and it does) or one that doesn’t actively work to destroy the country that you love? Sams, here I come.
I’m not going to help contribute to their ability to donate to the party that is undermining my freedoms.
